Where's Tha' Bin?

Ah's bin' nowhere!
No, where's tha' wheely bin?

Trawling through the archives, came across this picture of a rubbish bin in Uppermill village.
"What's the relevance?" I hear you ask...

Well, click on the image above for a larger version and look closely at the center of the Parish logo.
Carefully note the words:
"In The County of York"
Yep, Saddleworth in Yorkshire, that's right!

Now don't get me started, just go here for more information

Saddleworth is technically in Lancashire, I suppose, which is fine by me since i was born in Oldham, but lived most of my early life in the biggest urban district in England - Saddleworth.
To my mind though, Saddleworth isn't IN anywhere, it's a place set apart from both Yorkshire, which, let's face it, begins in Marsden and Meltham where they say words like 'laykin' for playing, and Lancashire, which begins in lees, at County End. No, Saddleworth should be in its own special county - the County of Saddleworth, full of gradely folk, as my Granny used to say, and she was from Rochdale!!

Thanks for your comment, but I did say don't get me started!!! So I'm going to avoid the symantics of a sweeping statement like "Saddleworth is technically in Lancashire"
As I was born a "Yorkshire lad" I'm with the local majority who'd argue that Saddleworth is technically in Yorkshire! - Follow the blog link for more details, and the local celebrations of Yorkshire day.

I will say that I've got to agree with the concept of Saddleworth being a place set apart, that seems like nice idea and a good compromise to keep all parties happy.
