Travelblog - Dovestones

Went for a walk around Dovestone's reservoir - when you first start it looks like just a couple of miles, but then you get round the corner and can see up the resorvoir. I'd say it's probably nearer 5 miles.

Icy cold wind in places as well, but the views were pretty gorgeous

t'Uppermill growth

I see there's a lot of changes happening in t'Uppermill at the moment. Poor old Bella Italia has been gutted, and seems to be taking ages to be built into something else - I heard rumours that it was on, then off, then on, then off again. But the builders were working there today, so it sounds like it's all on.

And there's a massive hole where Rick Whyman's used to be - I wonder what's coming there? ...Probably more housing courtesy of those nice Wigett people.

Travelblog - nowhere (phew!)

In order to complete the set, I guess I should be going to Scotland today (England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland) But think I'll pass on that one.

It's been nice to have a lie in for a change!

TravelBlog - Wales

Went to our Distribution Center/Manufacturing company in Wales today.

I guess that taxes must be really high in Wales in order to pay for all the signage - not only are all the place names four times as long as anywhere else, but all the signs are printed in both English and Welsh

Wales seems like quite an interesting place though - there are big mountains in the distance and pretty looking countryside. One day I must take the time to investigate Snowdonia.

Travelblog - Dublin

Nice place, nice people.
Super high security at the airport, shoes off, belts off through the metal detector
- not seen it that strict anywhere else in Europe.
Not even in Heathrow just after 9/11

They really don't want dodgy people to leave the country!

Anyway - good for them, makes my flight a safer experience.

Started reading Air Babylon. Now I'm a slow reader, but I'm really loving this book. Recommended to anybody who's ever been through an airport.

Near Miss?

I don't know how close planes have to be before it counts as a "near miss", but this is the closest I've ever experienced another plane in mid air.

I took this on a November flight from Paris CDG to Manchester last year

What's Happenin' ?

Rainin' Cats 'n Dogs

This is Just great:
Junku's Airborne Cats.
In ode to such amazing pictures I offer these following airborne dogs:

Where's Tha' Bin?

Ah's bin' nowhere!
No, where's tha' wheely bin?

Trawling through the archives, came across this picture of a rubbish bin in Uppermill village.
"What's the relevance?" I hear you ask...

Well, click on the image above for a larger version and look closely at the center of the Parish logo.
Carefully note the words:
"In The County of York"
Yep, Saddleworth in Yorkshire, that's right!

Now don't get me started, just go here for more information

Tiny, tiny Rufus

Rufus is just cool, here he is as a pup up to no good.

Two years on, nothing much has changed!

An Old Favourite

This seems like a good opportunity to post an old favourite photo.
So here's one taken with good old fashioned 35mm on my Nikon F65.

I hear that sadly Nikon are moving away from film and onto Digital - shame as the F65 really got me started with photography, but then again, I do prefer digital SLR now.

Saturday Stroll - Roaches Lock

Nice walk with the pooches to Roaches Lock.
Passed signs for the Tame Valley - must take a look at this some time as it looks pretty

Gaucho Grill

Went to this great place in Manchester called The Gaucho Grill.
Superb - if you like beef.
If you're a vegetarian, they do have options, but you might want to look elsewhere for more variety

Welcome

This is really just an experiment to add in some thoughts and photos that aren't necessarily related to the Huddersfield Narrow CanalCam Blog, but I'd still like to share them on the web without diluting that "hard code" canal message that the HNCCB readers just love!

So, happy Surfing!
